Educational Programs

Run By Dogs finds great honor in presenting our educational programs. It is a very thrilling experience to see people of all ages learn from our musher and our dogs. We offer programs outside or indoors; allowing participants two slightly different experiences. With our growing team, local interest and traveling availability, we are no longer able to travel to events. For educational events, we welcome you here to our kennel.

“On behalf of the Edward J. Arthur Elementary School I would like to thank you and your amazing team of sled dogs for visiting our school! Our students enjoyed being introduced to the wonderful sport of dog sledding. The entrance you made into the cafeteria for our morning assembly kick-off was inspirational and very exciting for students.” –  Jim Martino, Principal 2014

The best thing for everyone?
Watching the dogs create enchantment, genuine laughter and awe with their eagerness to work, their intelligence and love of people.

Outdoor Programs Include:

ok kids 3

  • Hands on involvement with dogs and gear – dogs are always on leash or in harness
  • Introduction to dog sledding and dog powered sports
  • Inspirational and engaging mushing stories about training and racing
  • Team building exercises
  • Outdoor programs are often more animated, energetic, and less formal forums

Indoor programs Include:

  • Engaging video clips of dog sledding
  • Hands on involvement with dogs and gear – dogs are often off leash and free roaming with participants
  • Introduction to dog sledding and dog powered sports
  • Inspirational and engaging mushing stories about training and racing
  • Team building exercises
  • Indoor programs are often more structured, conversational and relaxed

What is the team building exercise?

For many, it’s often the most fun part of the program! Participants learn what it takes to be part of the sled team. Become a musher – who drives the team; a lead dog – who takes all direction from the musher; a team dog – who holds the whole team together; or a wheel dog – who is the power house of the team. This is a valuable lesson on how each individual can make a team functional, workable and strong! We can hold a contest and see which team can run the fastest “sprint race” time.
