Dog Training

“Before we met with Kate we had a good dog, but he struggled with being in the crate and we could not leave him out when we weren’t home because he would spread garbage throughout the house and pee. After meeting with Kate for 4 weeks we now have a dog who can be in the crate while we are at work with no problems, he sleeps in the crate with the door open, and we have a completely calm dog when we come home. Gibson was also a leash puller and didn’t listen to commands such as sit, down, and come . It was impossible to bring him anywhere because he pulled so hard and didn’t listen. After working with Kate he is wonderful to bring on walks and when we take him out to the yard or a friends house we no longer need a leash. He learned sit, down, and come and responds instantly to all three commands. We couldn’t be happier with the work Kate has done with us and I would suggest her to anyone in a heart beat.” – Liz, Gloversville NY Private Obedience Training 2016

And then Liz sent me this right after which I had to post as well…

“But seriously thank you so much. Gibson is so comfortable in the crate. He was in there for 6 hours last night without a peep and sleeps in it with the door open and when people come to the house to work I say Gibson crate and he lays in there with the door open until they leave. I was amazed. Last night I said come on Gibson lets go to bed and he walked right into his crate. I almost cried.” – Liz, Gloversville NY Private Obedience Training 2016

If this percentage changes, we have to change our approach!

“When my dog Zeke started with Run by Dogs he had been labeled by other trainers to be the worst dog in the world… a train wreck. I was dealing with an anxious dog who had no coping skills and not moving forward in his training. I decided to do a board and train with Run by Dogs. When I first saw Zeke after 2 weeks of training the changes in him were unrecognizable. He could focus! After the full board and train I got back a dog that knew his commands and was at ease doing them. I could also bring him to the store and actually take him to public events, which I would have never attempted in the past! I even get compliments on how well behaved my dog is! The key to Kate’s training for me was she involved me in the training process so Zeke didn’t just learn what to do I also learned how to work with my dog! The whole process has made it possible for me to have a wonderful relationship with my dog! Thank you RUN BY DOGS!” – Michelle, Lasselsville NY Board and Train 2014

Board and Train

Specially designed for people who don’t have the resources, confidence, time, focus, desire or personal education to train their dogs themselves. Dogs live with me in my home and training center and receive between 4 and 6 hours of training a day. For safety reasons, all dogs receive crate training with board and training as they will be crated at night for sleeping or during “off” hours. Education and training is given to your dog for the first two weeks and then one- on – one training is re- established with the owner/ family for the following two weeks. This way the owner is involved with the training process, see their dog grow and succeed, and will know exactly what to expect when the dog arrives back home.  Please read the FAQs page for more details of what the board and train consists of.

10 Day Board and Train for puppies under 5 months looking for foundation and state of mind training. Once the dog is older than 6 months, owners bring the dog back in for another two week board and train to complete their training. $1200.00  plus tax total for 3 week board and train package

3 Week Board and Train for dogs who are older than 6 months and also have no behavioral issues ( fear, aggression, anxiety, etc.) $1500.00 plus tax

3 Week Board and Train for dogs who have behavioral issues (dog/dog aggression, human aggression, food/resource guarding, separation anxiety, fear, leash reactivity) $2000.00 plus tax
Most dogs need at least a 3 week program with us. Any week after 3 weeks is another $400.
Cost does not include an electronic collar. We will provide your dog with one the first day training with us and the collar will be added to an invoice.
What to bring for board and train:  Vaccine records (DHPP, Rabies, Bordetella) to show dog is up to date and in veterinarian care, negative fecal float within 6 months of training date .  Flea preventative must be utilized.  Bring enough food/medicine to complete the dogs stay.

I felt like the hands on instruction you gave was more than adequate. I think the struggle for owners with dogs exiting the board and train program is keeping up with the level of commitment it takes to help your dog maintain skills learned. Our  media, culture, and society lead us to have a very romanticized idea the ideal pet, and what it takes to get there.  – Angela, a recent board and train owner speaking about the board and train exit plan success 2016

For biting, nipping, guarding, severe anxiety, nervous, aggressive behaviors we will require the use of a communication based electronic collar. The brands we use and trust are Ecollar Technologies and Dogtra. Prices for ecollars are from $180-$255 depending on style and brand. For dogs that show any tendency with human aggression, it is a prerequisite they have muzzle conditioning before the board and train, and show up to board and train wearing a muzzle. If no muzzle conditioning is done before training, we will add an additional week to your board and train to complete the conditioning. Mini Educator Remote Collar (Ecollar) $180.00 tax included.  Boss Remote Collar (Ecollar) $255.00 tax included

mikkiI love education and tools. Training tools used are unique to each dog and handler. I want my clients confident with their education and tools. I use treats, slip leashes, toys, flat buckle collars, prong collars, e-collars, vocal commands, hand commands, and social pressure communication.

“I recently completed a 6 week in home training program with Kate. My pup Burleigh who is now 2 had treat aggression that eventually turned to people aggression. He had no formal training and did not follow any commands. He started biting all members of the family. When he bit me in the face for gently picking him up to look out the window, I knew it was time to do something to correct this. I called my vet who highly recommended Kate. Kate came to my house once a week for 6 week. Each week I was amazed at how she taught me and Burleigh how to better handle situations. During the week, I would practice what we learned and the following week, we moved on to something totally new. Kate is amazing and turned my dog around 100%. I can now pick him up without warning, make him sit and stay, take treats from me gently with no aggression. This training has made such a difference in my household. Thank you again Kate! I have been telling everyone I know with pets about you. You have amazing communication skills with both humans and animals!!!!” – Suzette, Rotterdam NY Private Dog Training 2016

“We cannot thank you enough for everything you’ve done for Betty and us. I’m so glad we got to work with you! You’ve taught us how to be better puppy parents and made it fun at the same time! We are so grateful. You are wonderful at what you do!” – Katie, Gansevoort NY Joey and Betty, Private Training 2015
